About Me
- My name is Gavin Vernon, and I am currently a student at Brownell Talbot School. I am also the founder of the nonprofit organization The Youth for a Better Living, Inc. I started this nonprofit because of a powerful experience I witnessed involving an employee at my father’s company.
- My father learned that one of his part-time employees was homeless and moving between motels with her young daughter. This deeply moved him, and he offered them a place to stay so she could work and stabilize her life. Watching how greatly this changed her situation had a profound impact on me. It showed me how a single act of kindness can transform someone’s life.
- Inspired by this, I created The Youth for a Better Living to help more people in meaningful and lasting ways.
Our Goals
- I learned from the administrators of Rai Som School, located in Chiang Mai, Thailand, about the urgent needs of their students and felt compelled to help. This school supports children who were forced to flee their home country of Myanmar due to the ongoing civil war. At present, the school is caring for 168 stateless children, yet they lack basic facilities—there are no proper restrooms and no adequate classrooms.
- I would like to make first contribution by raising $6,000 to build two male and two female bathrooms for the school. Your support can directly improve living conditions and restore dignity for these vulnerable children. Please consider helping these stateless students who rely on the kindness and compassion of others.
- Our next goal will be to provide desks and chairs for the classrooms, giving this group of children a proper learning environment and a better chance for a brighter future.

Our plans
- I started visiting this school again in the summer of 2023 and in the following years. I will also keep in close contact with the school officers and local volunteers to ensure that this project—and future projects—are successfully completed. Our organization will soon begin selling products, and all proceeds will go toward the renovation of this school. We are also collecting donated items to sell in order to help change the lives of these children.
- Coming into 2025, we have successfully completed several key milestones, including significant renovations to the school facilities, the launch of our first fundraising product line, and the expansion of our volunteer network. We remain committed to supporting this community and continuing our mission to provide better opportunities for the children.

At Youth for Better Living, we believe in a world where every young person has the resources they need to thrive. Our vision is to create lasting change through support and empowerment. In 2023, we raised $5,190.50 in donations. In 2024, we received $6,180 from contributions and sales of used items. By 2025, we reached $7,250 through donations and sales of used items. items.
